This study examines the concepts of hybridity, mimicry, and ambivalence in Negeri 5 Menara by A. Fuadi through a postcolonial approach. The study aims to understand how the characters in the novel form and adapt their identities when local cultural values encounter Western culture. It also aims to explore the characters’ efforts to preserve tradition while adapting to the flow of modernity. The results of this research reveal the presence of cultural hybridity reflected in elements of language, culture, and mindset. Mimicry is evident in the characters’ behavior, which imitates Western lifestyles, both in social habits and ways of thinking. Ambivalence arises when the characters are caught in a tension between acceptance and rejection in choosing their life paths. The conclusion of these three aspects reflects the struggle to maintain postcolonial identity and the process of self-formation amid the currents of modernity.
